Have you ever browsed through social media, and thought about how much ministers, ministries, and the way people preach the gospel has changed? It is amazing how you can reach millions of people daily through social media platforms. It is amazing how much confidence preachers are able to gain through interacting through a screen. It is beautiful to see Jesus being spread so quickly to nations all over the world through big screens and small screens on handheld devices.
The access to our powerful and beautiful Jesus for some people is just a screen away. In fact we could share with you so many testimonies of marriages being restored by watching our teachings on our social media platforms. Testimonies of oppressed people being delivered, homosexuals giving their lives to Jesus and being completely changed, and others healed from incurable diseases.
But we need to be careful that we don't turn our ministry into a product for sale. Social media has contributed to this in a big way. We've created our own ministry pages, with likes, ratings, and ways to get requested and booked. Although all this is helpful in reaching the lost and very convenient. It could be dangerous to our hearts with the wrong mindset.
We are not to think of ourselves or the ministry that God entrusted us as "better quality product" or "lower quality product" than the rest of our fellow brothers and sisters. Just because someone has higher ratings, more likes, or more invites, does not make them more popular, or more anointed, or better. We must be careful as the church and body of Christ how we see internet statistics on people. A minister who doesn't yell is just as anointed as those who do yell. A minister who doesn't see miracles is just as anointed as the ones who do see miracles. The bible says in 1 Corinthians 12 that The Holy Spirit has given different kinds of gifts to people. "To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues." (1 Corinthians 12:8-10 NIV)
Anointed simply means consecrated for divine purposes, the same Holy Spirit upon every chosen one, upon every one called to minister unto the Lord. Throughout the scriptures we find the Spirit of God coming over or upon people to use them for His glory!
“The Spirit of the Lord is on me,
because he has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners
and recovery of sight for the blind,
to set the oppressed free"(Luke 4:18 NIV)
We are not to think of ourselves or of our ministry as a product for sale. To think "If I don't share enough, they won't think I'm good enough" or "If I don't get invited to more places, or bigger venues with more people, I must not be that popular, anointed, or good enough".
Internet ratings do not define who you are, and the impact you are really making in this world. There are people who are powerful in the Lord who will never have a social media page with millions of likes, or millions of views on their video uploads, but these anointed people of God are plundering hell, and winning hundreds if not thousands of souls everyday, every week, every year. These people we don't find on the internet are raising disciples who are also changing the world through the powerful gospel of Jesus Christ.
There are people who will never share what they're doing on a social media page, but on that glorious day will hear; "Well done my good and faithful servant" (Matthew 25:21). We are not to sell ourselves or the gospel as a product. We are to simply serve Jesus in the way He's called us to. Even if it doesn't seem like you are doing something big, if you are doing what God called you to do, you are making a difference, and you are changing the world.
Fellow minister, guard your heart above all things. With almost 8 billion people in the world. I can assure you, that you are not the only minister God is using to manifest His power of salvation. Stay humble. Be encouraged! The gospel is being spread quickly across the world, and the return of our Lord is also approaching quickly. The day of redemption is coming. Run the race with humility and with all your heart!
